Talk:Kuki Airani
Te ingoa
takatāI see "Kūki 'Airani" at the top of the infobox. I presume that's the "local language" form of the name. "Te Matatiki" definitely has "Kuki Airani" with no diacritics or other non-letter symbols as the name in Māori, so I hope we can clarify the uses of the other version while keeping our page name unchanged. - I would have thought that there would be no macron. I'm sure that's how its pronounced in the 'local language' too. Maybe our contributor made a mistake. Seems odd with the long uu. No objection if you change it to macronless Kahuroa 08:27, 29 Pipiri 2006 (UTC)
- There is indeed a macron in the local language (Buse and Taringa dictionary), even if very few people write macrons or glottals whatever the word. see also http://www.minedu.govt.nz/web/downloadable/dl3550_v1/cookis.pdf

You will note that they write in this document Kūki ‘Āirani (with a macron on airani) which is not the case in Buse and Taringa Dictionary. Kore ture The most strange is that Captain Cook is Tute and not Kūki :).
