Tōtara
Ko te tōtara he rākau whakakake o Aotearoa. He tino rākau tēnei nō te Wao-a-Tāne, mō te hanga whare, hanga waka, mō ngā whakairo. He mātotoru, he rarai te kiri, he whāiti, he koikoi ngā rau, he pūwhero a taikākā. Ko te ingoa pūtaiao ko Podocarpus totara.[1]

Ka mōhiohia te ingoa "tōtara" waenga i ngā tāngata Ao-o-Kiwa mō tētahi momo ika me te kiri kōtaratara (ingoa pūtaiao: Diodon hystrix) noho i ngā moana pārūrū. Hoi anō, kaore tērā ika e noho i te waimoana Aotearoa. Nō reira, i ingoatia tēnei tipu mā te maumahara ki tērā ika ritea mai te kitenga o tona raurau koikoi.[2]
